Springs and Rojas Reel It In on Poison Lone Star Tour

Aaron Springs earned his first division title, at the sixth stop on the Poison Lone Star Billiards Tour, held at Big Tyme Billiards in Spring, Texas. The veteran player powered through an elite, 49-player, open 9-ball division field, undefeated, besting Victor Rojas in the finals, 6-1. Victor Rojas came from behind to capture the 59-player, amateur 9-ball division, earning two sets against David Twitty, 5-3, 4-1, who also achieved his highest finish to date.

On July 13th-14th, 2024, title sponsor, Poison by Predator Cues, Predator Cues, Team StraightPool Eye, Alamo Billiards, Outsville Billiards, and Brutal Game Gear, facilitated another successful event for players across Texas. Nearly 80 competitors, including 15 Gulf Coast Tour women, participated in the sixth event of the Tour season, held at the popular Big Tyme Billiards in Spring, Texas. Big Tyme provided twenty-four, 7’ bar tables for tournament play, all covered with Predator Arcadia Reserve, tournament blue cloth, in a non-smoking environment. Predator sponsored the Arcos II ball sets used on each table, and Accu-Racks were provided by Outsville Billiards for discussion-free racking.

In the open 9-ball division, winners’ side final eight, Victor Rojas defeated Joey Torres, 6-4, and Michael Andrews ousted Jose Banegas, 6-0. David Twitty defeated Ray Porter, 6-1, while Aaron Springs bested J.C Torres, 6-1. In the following round, Rojas sent Andrews west, 6-1, and Springs overwhelmed Twitty, 6-1. Hot seat action witnessed Springs defeat Rojas, 6-4, capturing the first winners’ bracket of his Tour career. On the west side, in the final eight, “open only” player, Raed Shabib, eliminated his Turkish counterpart, Eylul Kibaroglu, 5-1, then Andrews, 5-3. Joey Torres shut out Jose Banegas, 5-0, but fell to Twitty, 5-2. Twitty blasted through Shabib, 5-2, but lost his second place bid against Rojas, 5-3. In the final set, Springs was on fire, and Rojas did not have an opportunity to shoot until the fifth game. Springs closed out the first set, 6-1, earning his first-ever, Tour victory.

In the amateur 9-ball division, winners’ side final eight, David Twitty slid past Jantzen Miller, 5-4, while Ken Laney upset J.C. Torres, 5-2. Newcomer Terry Washington sent Dakota Seth west, 5-3, and Aaron Springs bested Derek Segree, 5-2. In the following round, Twitty eased by Laney, 5-4, while Washington overcame Springs, 5-1. In the hot seat match, it was Twitty over Washington, 5-2. On the one-loss side, and in the final eight, newcomer Joshua Charbonnet eliminated Ray Porter , 4-3, but fell to Laney, 4-0.  Rojas made quick work of Miller, 4-1, and Springs, 4-2. Rojas dusted off Laney, 4-2, then Washington, 4-0, to meet Springs in the final. After losing his first match to Springs, Rojas won an incredible 10 matches, earning himself a spot against Twitty, in the finals. The first set witnessed Rojas take charge, and closing out the set, 5-3. Twitty could not gain momentum, and Rojas persevered, overwhelming Twitty the second set, 4-1. Congratulations to Victory Rojas on a well-deserved, Tour victory.

Once again, congratulations to David Twitty on his highest finish to date. Hats off to Victor Rojas who nearly captured both divisions at the same event, and of course, Aaron Springs who won his first tour division title!

Terry Washington competed and took third place in the 59-player, amateur division. This was Terry’s first time to compete in a Poison Lone Star Billiards Tour event, and we look forward to watching him take down the competition at future events.
